Podcast: Own Your Shift

Hello, I’m Mayra Martinez-Sacco.

I’m a first generation Cuban-American and also the first in my family to graduate from college and join the corporate workforce. After over 30 years on Wall Street and having been a part of many acquisitions, sales, mergers and finally a layoff, I went through my own personal career transition. That experience led me to realize that there are many others just like me that could use some guidance and self-awareness to determine what’s next on their exciting journey called “Life!”

In the last 10 years I have worked on consulting and coaching initiatives with clients such as S&P Global, KPMG, FNMA, USDA, Entergy, Con Edison, J&J, Eli Lilly, P&G and others across various industries: financial services, insurance, federal government, utilities, pharmaceutical etc. I help companies optimize their talent by working with individuals/teams and empowering them to re-write their stories and see what possibilities lie ahead.

I currently offer career growth/transition services, executive coaching, leadership development and team building all through a diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and mindfulness lens. Prior to this, I was a Managing Director and Head of the Government Solutions Group at BNY Mellon where I was responsible for various government programs established by the US Treasury and Federal Reserve as a result of the financial crisis in 2008 (TARP) and other large Federal Programs.

I joined BNY Mellon in 1995 as a Senior Relationship Manager in the Mutual Funds group, where I managed large mutual fund complexes with assets in excess of $250 billion. I was then head of a relationship management group servicing banks and insurance companies that serviced over 250 financial institutions with more than $1 trillion in assets. Following this, I led a team of consultants and technical specialists who provided consultative technology solutions to our most valued and complex franchise clients. Prior to joining BNY Mellon, I worked in a number of financial services roles with Bank of America, Security Pacific, Chase and Bankers Trust.

I’ve always been passionate about women’s advancement and development. I was a member of BNY Mellon’s Women’s Initiative Network, served on its Executive Committee, and chaired its External Networking Committee. I was also a member of the Women’s Bond Club of New York since 2005, and on the Board from 2009-2013. Additionally, I co-founded the Wall Street Women’s Alliance and on its Governance Board from 2011-2015. I was a member of United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council from 2006-2013. I was a Board Member, and Finance co-chair of the Volunteer Center of Bergen County from 2016-2019. I am currently on the Board of the Miller/Howard High Income Equity Fund from 2021 to present and the President of The Victorian HOA in the Dominican Republic. I’m an Author and Podcast co-host.

I earned my BS in Finance from New York University
